Up to this day in 2023, social media influencer, Kai Cenat, has been promoting a public appearance at Union Square in Manhattan to give away video game equipment. 3000 to 5000 people show up, catching police off guard, as Cenat has not applied for a permit.

The crowd grows large hours before Cenat shows up, and starts getting rowdy when the NYPD arrives. People are climbing lightposts and the pavilion. The police set up barricades, and the crowd knocks them down, and starts throwing things at the police. Mayhem ensues, with people swarming area streets, setting off fireworks, and smashing cars. Businesses lock their doors.

When he arrives, Cenat is arrested, joining 60 others. After he agrees to pay restitution, charges are dropped. Cenat apologizes and is streaming again in a few days.
