Portland “Back the Blue” Rally

August 22, 2020
Portland, OR

On August 22, 2020, in Portland, Oregon, amid months of Black Lives Matter protests against police violence, hundreds of pro-police demonstrators — including Proud Boys and armed militia — gather near the Multnomah County Justice Center, waving Gadsen flags and banners reading “Blue Lives Matter” and "Trump 2020." A large group of counter-protestors assembles as well.

The two sides clash violently, fighting with fists, paintball guns, fireworks, mace, bats, feces and nail-studded shields.

Police, stretched thin, deploy only about 30 officers and largely stand back. Critics on both sides call it a double standard.

One week later, a self-described "Antifa” participant shoots and kills a pro-Trump Patriot Prayer supporter. The shooter himself is shot by federal agents five days later.
